Enter a reference

Resources > New will lead you to a page on which you will need to enter the title of the document and the document type. The decision concerning document type is important because the fields presented are significantly different. Please feel free to explore different documents types, do not hesitate to make a "mistake" by trying out funky doc types.

So. You've decided on the doc type and have entered the doc title, once you "proceed" you land on a page that asks you to enter the number of authors. Don't worry, once you enter that number and hit "proceed" you get access to all the fields! Of particular note are the abstract and notes field. I do make an effort to summarize the article or at least mention a few notable details from the article in abstract (or add a Table of Contents for books), and sometimes I add other relevant articles concerning closely related articles or juicy tangents in the notes field. In short, if the reference is added it should ideally have either an abstract or notes.

Categories & Keywords

For me this is by far the most important aspect, insofar as it permits making creative links between documents by being creative about ontologies. For the moment there are a limited number of categories, and they aren't overly creative:

  1. history
  2. linguistics
  3. literature
  4. speaking to machines
  5. speaking through machines

Suggestions for new categories (especially creative meta-type categories) are very much welcomed.

  • There are currently way too many keywords :)
    • Since suggestions for keywords pop up as you type, this makes it easier to avoid reduplicating ever-so-slightly different keywords, which, is a dastardly source of (white) noise in any dataset
    • (references scattered between zonbi, zombie, & zombies make for less-than-ideal concept bibliographies).

Finishing up

Please check that you have gotten the maximum from the document before submitting. Dates are very helpful to see when browsing through a bibliography, and no bibliographic entry is complete without them. Once you press "proceed", you get a confirmation message and return to the initial "new reference" page, where you are asked to enter the doc title and type. In order to see your reference you can:

  1. click on Wikindx > Home
your article will be the most recent one,
to view it click v
to edit click E
do not click X or your reference will eXplode
  1. try out Resources > Quick Search and Resources > Power Search.
