Fall of Civilizations

Not sure how much ancient history I'll post on this site, but this podcast, called The Fall of Civilizations, is now watchable on a new YouTube channel. Only the first 8 episodes have been converted to videos as of this writing, the newer (and longer) podcasts (Aztec, Byzantine, Han) can be found on Soundcloud.

I won't embed the videos here, because for language learners it's always better to watch the video on youtube (after having clicked on CC -- on the lower right-hand side of the player -- to be sure you have the subtitles if you want them).

8. The Sumerians: Fall of the First Cities (published August 2020)

  • 0:00 -- 5:00 The introduction sets the stage nicely with the story of an Italian who "rediscovered" cuneiform & the city of Ur.
  • 23:15 -- theory of flood (origin? of Sumerians)
  • 31:43 -- 34:06 Al Jazeera
  • 35:08 -- (metals + mathematics 360°, 24h, 60m, etc.)
