Pronoun, (singular)
- this, or this one, is near the speaker.
- that, or that one, is farther away.
The initial voiced dental fricative ð is a deictic common to both the singular and plural:
- these (or in some dialects, these ones) are near the speaker.
- those (or in some dialects, those ones) are farther away.
Demonstrative adjective (determiner)
- This computer is the one I am using.
- That computer is farther away.
