Takes three types of objects: a noun / noun phrase, a participial clause, a sentence.
- I saw her after that.
- I met him just after that interminable meeting about the cost of the special new widget-counting machine.
- Mary got here after Cybèle.
- I saw her after having desert.
- After spending so much money, I had to work a lot of hours.
- I saw her after the waiter dropped her food.
- After you put your mask on, you become anonymous.
or it can take a null-object, but in that case the variant afterwards is used
