Takes three types of objects: a noun / noun phrase, a participial clause, a sentence.

  • I saw her after that.
  • I met him just after that interminable meeting about the cost of the special new widgets.
  • Artur got here after Simone.
  • I saw her after having desert.
  • After spending so much money, I had to work a lot of hours.
  • I saw her after the waiter dropped her food.
  • After you put your mask on, you become anonymous.

or it can take a null-object, but in that case the variant afterwards is used
