In principle, Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that anyone can administer. There are indeed a number of a-no-nymous administrators on most of the mediawiki projects I've seen (WMF controlled or not). In practice, many communities seem to develop a certain number of star blockers who can be caricatured as hang(wo)men, bounty hunters, border patrol agents. Not all administrators play this role, of course, as you get a lot of "blood" on your hands. Some executioners on en.wp who have commanded or caught my attention include...

Dennis Brown

• is said to be tight with Drmies and seems to be. I wonder if Drmies knows Dennis Brown from Adam.

Goldenring

• Made me bigly ineffable in one of his first cases. Later, he would get toolboxed by the Mob for trying to gag Marek for a spell. (wikirev)

Bishonen

• An ext-roarR^R-dinary albatross with a whole menagerie of swampsocks.

Anna Frodesiak

• Oddly, when googling User:AnnaFrodesiak, Ming, Marek, Tarc, Tarantino, and a few other WPO notables spring into view. Though she's blocked as many people as Bishonen, she seems to have fewer enemies. Perhaps it's a question of tone.

Drmies

• As a general rule, doesn't know people from Adam.

Sandstein

• Very different from the others listed above. There have been tensions with Bishonen over the (very existence of the) AE board, for example.
